Choir Concert

There's nothing like finding out your child has a choir concert to go to "tonight" and they forgot to tell you. Kate came home from school yesterday and told us that she had a concert at 7pm and had to be there at 6:30. Thankfully, we didn't have anything else going on. She did a great job! On the way home, we talked about this girl in 8th grade that sounded great and John said she had probably been taking voice lessons. Kate and Sarah did not know you could take voice lessons. They were so excited to hear that and would like to live close to Aunt Rose, so she can teach them voice lessons.

78 Degrees!

Fill 'er up!

Look out Hayden

Run!

Hayden and Luke (say it fast, and Hayden thinks he is in trouble)

"Hayden Luke!"

Yippee! It is warm today. I know, for most of you that read this blog, it's been 78 already. For some of you, it was probably 78 degrees in January. Well, we are thrilled to wear flip flops and shorts.

Hayden had a friend over today and they had a water gun fight in the front yard. We have them often around here. Well, at least in the summer. I need to restock the water gun supply; we seem to be running short. I just wanted to post a few pictures since most of the pictures from our neighborhood are of Hayden and about 12 girls. We've had Luke over a couple of times and they have a lot of fun together. I think when we move, we're going to have to go through the neighborhood and make sure there is at least 1 boy around his age.

A new look...

My sister is so cool. She helped me change my blog a few months ago by writing some new HTML code for me to help fit the picture in without making it look strange. Well, she found a new website and you can make these cute little headers for your blog. She made this new design and I love it!

Kate's first play

Kate is in standing behind the girl on the couch.

The rest of the cast.

Greeting her fans

Kate with our neighbor's girls

Since December, Kate has been preparing for this play. She tried out for the part of Abby in 'Airline'. The play almost didn't go on. The roof of the middle school auditorium is collapsing and they couldn't do the performance there. They thought they would have to cancel, but a local theater in Fairborn let the school use their theater. There were two performances this week. Kate had the opening night on Thursday. Another girl did the Friday night performance. Some of our friends came to see Kate. She babysits for this family down the street and they brought their girls. It was so cute. Their mom said they talked about it all day the next day.

Kate did a great job! She was very nervous, but after her first few lines, she was fine. The second day, she got to be an extra. We originally thought we might not be here for the performance, so we talked to her teacher and asked if she could be the understudy and do one of the two performances if we were still here. She agreed to that and Kate understood and agreed also. Once again, God's timing is perfect. John did get it on video and she can't wait for some of you to see it. (Gran and Rose)

Happy Birthday to me...

Hayden and Rachel have been watching Food Network way to much. They begged me to let them make my birthday cake. They have been watching Ace of Cakes, the cake challenges and sugar showdowns. They have even designed their own cakes for their next birthday on paper. I offered them a three layer round cake, or the ever popular bundt cake. They went for the bundt cake, although Hayden thought I said "butt" cake. So, here's my "butt" cake! They had so much fun making the cake and frosting it was even better. It was great! (Yes, it was April 11th, but I didn't get my pictures on until today.)

Sarah got her braces off

This was one of the only pictures I could find of Sarah smiling with her teeth showing before she got braces.

Wow, what a smile! Don't worry, John is looking into purchasing a shot gun. Oh, come on, you know we're from Texas. There's nothing like daddy sittin' on the front porch cleanin' his gun when your date comes to pick you up.

Spring Break

During Spring Break, we didn't have anything on our agenda, so we did some sewing. Sarah had been begging me to make a purse, so I pulled out my tub-o-fabric and let her pick something. When Kate and Rachel saw what we were doing, they asked to make one too. So they all picked their fabric from my stash. There was only one problem, Rachel doesn't know how to sew. Well, she does now. She did such a good job. I am so proud of all of them. Sewing is a skill that I think everyone should learn. Not that you have to make your own prom dress, but you could. Rachel had so much fun. She wants to make a purse for her teacher. Sarah just made her second purse Saturday for one of her friends for their birthday. She also has decided to sell her purses for $12. She already has 2 orders. I don't know where she gets that. We had a lot of fun and it only took a couple of hours.

April Fool's

I have been waiting for a month to play an April Fool's joke on my kids. Well, last night I got it ready and this morning, it was perfect! I made a chore chart (like every week) and assigned some very different chores.

Kate:
Tuesday- Wash all your clothes by hand and hold them outside until they are dry.
Thursday-Trim grass in front yard with a pair of nail clippers.
Sarah:
Tuesday- Lick 100 stamps for paying bills.
Thursday- Sweep the house with your toothbrush.
Rachel:
Tuesday- Collect coke cans from neighbors and recycle them for your lunch money.
Thursday- Set your alarm to 12am. Please deliver a midnight snack to mom.
Hayden:
Tuesday- Balance the family checkbook.
Thursday- Wash, dry and brush Lily.

I saw Kate and Sarah looking at the chores and they read every person's chore with some confusion. "April Fool's", I cried! Rachel agreed to the recycling for lunch money and thought that was a great idea. They all thought it was funny and I can't wait to find something new for next year.
